Working Astrology Without a Birth Time – Part Three

In the third part of this series, I’m going to look at the aspects in the time unknown chart. I will continue to use the chart of royal-bride-to-be Kate Middleton as an example.

I recommend reading Part 1 and Part 2 if you haven’t already to bring you up to speed.

So, on to the aspects in Kate Middleton’s chart (for reference, both charts are shown in Part Two of this series). Note I’m looking at the major Ptolemaic aspects plus the quincunx as I see that as a major aspect. You can of course add in other aspects that  you work with. The orbs are set as follows:-

Conjunction 8 degrees
Opposition 8 degrees
Trine 8 degrees
Square 8 degrees
Sextile 4 degrees
Quincunx 2 degrees

You may use wider or narrower orbs than me. That’s ok, work with what feels right for you.

In the early chart the aspects are as follows, from the closest aspect…

Moon trine Jupiter
Sun trine Chiron
Venus square Jupiter
Moon quincunx Venus
Saturn square North Node
Neptune sextile Pluto
Moon quincunx Mercury
Mercury sextile Uranus
Mercury square Jupiter
Mercury conjunct Venus
Venus trine Mars
Moon square Mars
Sun square Saturn
Saturn sextile Neptune
Pluto square North Node
Sun opposite North Node
Saturn conjunct Pluto
Mercury trine Mars

In the late chart the aspects are as follows, from the closest aspect

Moon square Saturn
Venus square Jupiter
Mercury conjunct Venus
Mercury square Jupiter
Saturn square North Node
Moon conjunct North Node
Neptune sextile Pluto
Sun trine Chiron
Moon opposite Sun
Sun square Saturn
Sun opposite North Node
Venus trine Mars
Mercury sextile Uranus
Saturn sextile Neptune
Moon sextile Chiron
Mercury trine Mars
Pluto square North Node
Saturn conjunct Pluto
Moon square Pluto

As you can see, the Moon makes very different aspects in each chart. This is because the Moon  moves quickly, moving in an out of orb to another body within a few hours. Without knowing the  time of birth, we cannot take into account the aspects in this particular chart because the early and late charts are 24 hours apart. Of course the Moon is extremely important in the astrological chart but at this stage, we can only guestimate its placement. The purpose of this exercise is to look at what we CAN find out without knowing the time of birth

For you it might be different. If you think you might have been born between 2 and 4pm for  example, you are more likely to find that some lunar aspects are the same in each chart and therefore you can trust that that particular aspect is present.

So, let’s go with what we do know. Here are the aspects that are present in the chart of Kate  Middleton as shown by comparing the two charts.

Sun square Saturn
Sun trine Chiron
Sun opposite north node
Mercury conjunct Venus
Mercury trine Mars
Mercury square Jupiter
Mercury sextile Uranus
Venus trine Mars
Venus square Jupiter
Saturn sextile Neptune
Saturn conjunct Pluto
Saturn square North Node
Neptune sextile Pluto
Pluto square North Node

The Sun square Saturn is a strong aspect in her chart. We have already seen in Part 2 that her Saturn is strongly placed in Libra and that this planet rules her Sun in Capricorn. In a  challenging square aspect there is a sense that Kate is a high achiever, driven to succeed but at  times she may doubt herself. In an article in Vanity Fair, there is a quote that seems to
illustrate this aspect very well

According to one of her friends at St. Andrews, she remained level-headed and kept her feet on  the ground during the early months of their courtship. “She never got above her station, and even  though she had secured the most sought-after boy at St. Andrews, she never gloated. She was
actually quite insecure about her looks and never considered herself pretty; she was very sweet  and very shy.”

Sometimes Sun square Saturn can manifest as never feeling quite good enough. Certainly there has  been some talk in the media (and apparently in certain upper class circles) of whether Kate is ‘good enough’ for Prince William. Status is an issue with this aspect.  Another very telling manifestation has been the press’ rather unkind nickname ‘Waity Katy’. The
Sun is symbolic of our identity. What we identify most strongly with is our name. Saturn of  course is Old Father Time. He moves slowly and is commonly associated with delay.

People can sometimes get nervous when seeing a stressful Saturn aspect to the Sun but every planet has positive and negative manifestations. One of the best ways this energy could manifest in Kate’s life is that it encourages her to struggle to achieve her purpose. It gives her a great  sense of determination to conquer the mountain. It offers self discipline and a respect for tradition and authority. In this life she is encouraged to build her own identity and is likely to  need to see tangible results for the work she puts in. She takes life seriously but as she grows older she may find that she feels freer to throw off the shackles and enjoy herself more.

With the Sun conjunct the South Node, it is as though this life is calling her to recognise who she is and yet be able in some way to go beyond the ego to create a home and  family. Looking at the aspect it is as though it is saying “be who you are but that is not all you are”

The trine from the Sun to Chiron suggests that this is someone with healing abilities or the  ability to mentor others. Whilst Kate may doubt her own talents, it is likely that others see  they can learn a lot from her.

Mercury’s busy aspects to Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus once again confirm the airy element.  There is a bright and breezy side to Kate, especially when she is out in public. The conjunction to Venus once again shows the need for friendship and a mental bond in love.

The Mercury-Venus square to Jupiter in Scorpio is interesting. Sometimes this can manifest as self-indulgence but the Saturn square to the Sun may help to curb this tendency. On the other side of things, it can manifest as spending more, paying later. There can be a feeling of wanting to appear wealthy, even when you are not which can cause financial problems if not watched.  Another more psychological way this aspect can work is feeling that sometimes opportunities are missed because the inherent value in them is not recognised at the time. This can sometimes stem from a lack of faith in the self or being unsure of ones own values. At times the subject may feel misunderstand.

With both Saturn and Pluto square to the North Node, Kate may sometimes feel that there are strong forces challenging her destiny. Some say that Pluto square to the nodal axis suggests a  missed karmic step. True or not, there is a strong sense that Saturn and Pluto seem to contain Kate in a way that forces to slow down and acknowledge what she is learning. Saturn is the closest out of the two so once again we see the Saturnian theme present in Kate’s chart. Somehow  this seems fitting for a woman who is to marry into the Royal Family – the hallmark of English  tradition with a long history.

My feeling is that Kate will show great dignity and self discipline as a Royal and will have a huge respect for the family she has married into. That said, I also sense that it will strongly challenge who she is as an individual.

Once again we can see that even without a time of birth, a great deal of information has been found in the chart. By comparing the placements in the early and late charts, you can also check to see if any planetary bodies are conjunct asteroids or fixed stars. Midpoints can also be used. These techniques will evoke further information which can be synthesised into the overall chart analysis.
