Uncoiling Lilith

And this is what it’s like
As Lilith rises
Fierce sweetness of desire
And devouring
The loss and found of self
You within me
And me within you
Rising strong and hard
To meet soft and malleable
Grasping my hair
Shivering under the watchful
Eye of the Moon
Sweet and salt merged into
Writhings of animal instinct

I want to paint
I chase my prey
Engorge on colour
Feast
Slash the canvas
To create sculpture
That bleeds music

I am unintelligible
Yet in every unspoken urge
My silence rages
An exclamation point in history
Herstory floods my senses
Bridges the past and future in
Now – Now – Now
Screaming the name of God.

  1. Thanks Susannah. I just said to someone else, publishing poetry on my blog makes me feel quite naked compared to publishing a normal blog post! But I’m writing a book about Lilith at the moment so she is really singing to me 🙂

  2. You are an amazing poet! I just found your site and want to read all of your articles. Thanks for your insight and the ability to share it.
