This Week in Astrology – 20th – 26th May 2013

Mini MandalaIt’s a busy week in the cosmos! Mercurial aspects abound, we have the next in the series of squares between Uranus and Pluto and a lunar eclipse to boot. I don’t know about you but this last week I’ve been restless. My sleep pattern was broken 5 nights in a row. Consequently I needed significant caffeine to get me through the day which then of course kept me awake again at night! My dreams were troubled, throwing up images from long ago, from a ‘me’ that I hardly recognised. It took me a while to shake her off. Around me, many people I know seem to be experiencing high drama that touches on old wounds, repressed emotions, reaching to the very heart of them. High solar activity seems to have amplified an already electric energy.

The week begins with the Sun’s entry in Gemini on the 20th May which accompanies the Uranus-Pluto square. This is the third in a series of seven squares that are ushering in an era of change on a worldwide level. With the Sun moving into Gemini, this is life IN-FORMATION. Information is key right now. Seek out those smaller stories that hide between the glaring headlines. Hunt out news that puts you on notice that change is possible and that you have a choice in how to proceed. Your choices will create changes that ripple outwards, creating the future to come.

The Sabian symbols for the Uranus-Pluto square are as follows :-

Uranus
A Triangularly Shaped Flight Of Wild Geese

Pluto
An Illustrated Lecture On Natural Science Reveals Little-Known Aspects Of Life

These two symbols trigger the thought ‘cosmic order’. The flying geese show that there is order in nature. It’s true that over time, there is much that science has discovered and we are far more knowledgeable about the universe and our part in it than we ever were. Unfortunately our scientific progress has not been matched by ethical/spiritual/moral progress and consequently the planet and its inhabitants are suffering. I noticed a news headline “Deep sea mining ‘gold rush’ moves closer” bringing down to earth the message from the first Lunar eclipse in this season which was on the Sabian symbol The Gold Rush Tears Men Away From Their Native Soil. Back then I commented that we already know that ‘all that glitter’s isn’t gold.

Mining for gold (and similar) is a Plutonian affair. Perhaps with Neptune moving through it’s own sign of Pisces, this is what has stimulated our fascination with the sea – a wonderland full of hidden promises, the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. But the problem is that it is known that mining the sea bed could potentially cause catastrophic damage to marine life. Whilst we have reached a stage where we have developed the technology to mine our seas, does it mean we should? This is a question for the Uranus-Pluto square. The Sabian message for this square is a strong reminder that there is a natural order that perhaps we cannot see.

Kalachakra thangkaHow to apply this on a personal level? It’s also about knowing your own natural patterns, recognising how there is a subtle order to your own life and personal development. It’s about finding time to make sense of the pattern, to listen to where it encourages you to grow, even when it feels initially uncomfortable. If you feel inclined, meditate upon a sacred mandala to bring yourself in line with your own internal cosmic design.

Mercury trips off the square on the 21st May by making a quincunx to Pluto and a sextile to Uranus. Someone or something is pointing the way. You may find yourself distracted and deflected – ending up in a completely different place from where you intended. If you can go with the flow, despite feeling on the back-foot, you may discover a whole new perspective.

It’s still Mercury’s story on the 22nd May as he heads to a square with Chiron. It might be a case that you don’t know who or what to believe. It’s like being stood at the end of a rope bridge, squeezing your eyes shut and hoping that it really is safe to cross. The trouble is that with old wounds rising to the surface, it’s difficult not to doubt. Try not to get into the second-guessing game. These squares are about taking action, even when you might not be completely certain.

The last of the eclipses in this current season occurs on the 25th May. This tiny partial lunar eclipse is too small to be visible to the naked eye but it still makes an impact. With a square from the eclipse to Neptune however, this is a subtle eclipse that may take you off-guard. With the eclipse occurring in Sagittarius, this lunation is likely to bring up issues about what to believe. By now you’re half way across that rope bridge and it’s swinging gently from side to side and you’re trying not to look down…

Don’t fear the heights that you can go to. Trust yourself to put one step in front of the other. Change is inevitable and this week its about doing what it takes to go with it rather than fight against it. Your power is in listening for the subtext amongst the text, watching for negative thought patterns and raising your game by arming yourself with the information you need to get to where you need to go.
