The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 10:29 (UT) on the 11th December at 19°Sg03′. Sagittarius as a sign is bright and expansive. It’s the sign that says, ‘there’s a whole world out there’ and runs off excitedly to explore it. Deep down, Sagittarius wants to understand the meaning of life by embracing new experiences and unknown paths. After all the death of Scorpio, Sagittarius is drawn to look for life after death, with all the associated joyful exuberance that comes after travelling through the darkness. The archer aims his bow to the sky, ‘shoot for the stars‘, he seems to cry! But sometimes Sagittarius can try to shoot too many arrows at once or he gets careless about the target. Sometimes our enthusiastic adventurer can get in over his head and take on too much.
There’s a powerfully excitable edge to this New Moon as it plays right into the hands of the Mars-Uranus opposition that perfects on the same day. The Moon is sextile Mars showing that we are primed to act, to take charge, to lead. The trine to Uranus puts us firmly in forward thinking mode but there’s a danger that we could go charging ahead without looking to where we are leaping. A square from the New Moon to lunation ruler Jupiter exacerbates this tendency, bigging us up, making us feel brave and confident and sure that’s it’s all going to be OK.
And the truth is, these aren’t bad things and yes it probably will be OK. Bravery, forward thinking, optimism, what’s not to like? The problem comes when we don’t look where we are going, when we hurtle off after the next thrill and ignore where we are. Jupiter is in Virgo so details matter when it comes to planning a new goal or chasing a new dream. We need to know the risks, especially with Mars and Uranus involved, otherwise that square to Chiron may lead to being hurt.
New Moon in Sagittarius – Chart

This New Moon falls at the apex of a t-square with Jupiter and Chiron opposite each other. Perhaps this is about finding faith or recovering faith after something crashed you down. The caution is to be aware of what you are putting your faith into. With this chart, there is certainly the potential for divine inspiration, a feeling that you have regained what you lost, a sudden sense of possibility. But there’s also the potential for grabbing hold of something that looks like a good thing, only to be disappointed further down the line. If ever there was a chart that said don’t put all your eggs in one basket, it would be this one.
There is visionary quality to this New Moon and a strong feeling of re-capturing a zest for life. The only problem is that the energies are unpredictable. Mars and Uranus caution us to slow down. There is an opportunity to act but actions can be reckless or inspired; make sure you know which is which. The house position of the New Moon shows where you need to set seeds for expansion. Where Mars is travelling is where action is likely to take place. Uranus’s transiting position in your chart shows the area of life that is getting shaken up, freed up and awakened. I would recommend waiting for a couple of days to pass before starting a new path or making any life changing decisions, just to give it time for you to do your risk assessment (and allow Mars to move away from Uranus).
The Moon sits on the Sabian symbol :-
In An Old-Fashioned Northern Village Men Cut The Ice Of A Frozen Pond For Use During The Summer
This symbol expresses the idea that what we have now can benefit us in the future. There are ways of working with the present that will ensure success and stability later down the line. The work we do now is important and it may even be hard work (especially with Saturn transiting this sign) but these are foundations we need to lay for future exploits.
Essentially, this lunation is encouraging us to explore further afield, to shake of limitations and free our hearts and minds. This is fast moving stuff and life may well speed up. Stay aware of when you need to apply the brakes in order to navigate sharp bends and sudden oncoming events.
Also on the same day as the New Moon, Venus and Neptune perfect in a trine. Whilst the Moon doesn’t connect to either of these bodies, it’s there in the background whispering words of unconditional love. If you keep your heart open, that’s when a leap of faith can happen.
As a dble. AQ. I’m finding this kind of exciting in a strange uranus way! LOL! I really like your posts and by the way Merry Christmas.
Three weeks ago my home sold at auction. It wasnt by choice. Two days prior my role at work was made redundant after seven years. It all happened very fast and has left me unanchored, uncertain and excited to see what unfolds now. I had long outgrown that role but stayed – waiting for a new oppprtunity before moving. The investment partnership in the house had run its time too but I felt afraid to uproot my family & go it alone. Losing my job and the house at the same time has been very testing but this Sagi moon has forced me to let go of the shackles that have tied me down and limited my independence and scope for new opportunities. It’s time to trust myself and my own capabilities now and get out there on a limb without fear or resistance. Learn to embrace the uncertainty, listen to myself and trust what I know.
Wow Rebecca, I love your inspired comment, especially after everything you have been through recently. It is so very scary with life sweeps you up and points you in a different direction but it sounds like you are all set for the universe to lead the way to better things to come.
Lol, yes I can imagine you are feeling the excitement with that double Aquarius energy Pamela. Thanks for reading and Yuletide blessings to you too.
I knew we were good, exactly the same byline for this new moon!
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, Leah, its olivebean, from FB. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, and wish you the warmest of this holiday season. 🙂 xoxoxox 🙂
Oh, and fyi – I was kicked off FB because of their ridiculous “real name” policy. 🙁
Hi Jamie – oh, oooops, lol! Well it certainly shows that we’re in tune! It’s all I was thinking when I was writing the post I never thought to look at other post titles! Sorry, I can see you posted before me!
Hey Olive/Kristy – oh I thought I hadn’t see you. Yes that real name policy is just ridiculous isn’t it. I had to send my personal documents and everything to be able to continue to use the site and prove my name really is Leah Whitehorse. It’s crazy. It could be so easy to get around by enforcing real names to join the site but letting people use screen names, especially for safety reasons.
Anyway, thanks for coming over to wish me happy holidays 😀 Wishing you a fabulous festive season.
Thanks for this really grounded, wise interpretation. I had a decision to make about something next year which is hard to decide. I felt expansive at first but then reservations kicked in. I have been holding off even though someone requires a decision today. The New Moon Falls in my fourth house, so I guess that is a new beginning around home, family, and being inwardly centred? This decision had echo imprints around hidden ancestral (fourth house things too). Blessings to you, Leah
Hi Deborah, thanks for your comment. Yes, New Moon in the 4th house tends to mean new beginnings in home, family and core self. Blessings
I really love your posts 🙂 You interpret the messages of astrology so beautifully.
This new moon falls in my first house. I applied for a new job yesterday. Jupiter is transiting my tenth house Virgo so maybe maybe. I want to leave my present job so bad I can taste it.
Good luck with your job application Linda.
Thank you Marissa 🙂
