Full Moon in Sagittarius May 2016 – Frenzy

the-storm-1911The Full Moon occurs at 21:14 (UT) on the 21st May 2016 at 01°SAG13′

At this Full Moon, there is an urge to expand, to go for your vision but the Moon is in turmoil conjunct Mars retrograde and opposing the Sun and Vesta in Gemini and Venus in Taurus. It’s possible that this lunation will bring to a head issues that have been rippling under the surface since Mars stationed retrograde in mid April. Fires that have been smoldering could begin to burn out of control, emotions erupt, anger burst out. Sagittarius is normally happy go-lucky but there’s inflammation here that makes me think of the smell of burning rubber. There could be an urge to take off, leave, separate, just run the hell away. The problem is that with this energy, there’s a frying pan, fire scenario which is why perhaps we have a second Full Moon in Sagittarius next month which will give us another stab at it.

With Vesta conjunct the Sun, there is a pull to stick to your word, to focus on gathering information, to talk and talk…and maybe still not come up with any answers (especially as Mercury is currently retrograde). In fact, the complaint for some could be that there’s all talk and no action which could incite sudden attack but it’s rather like wildly flinging arrows and hoping they will hit the mark. With Venus opposite Mars, relationships could be highlighted as the main source of contention.

On an inner level, maybe you’ve been frustrated that you can’t get to where you want to be. Ruler Jupiter’s opposition to idealistic Neptune means that for some, delusions of grandeur/big dreams/idealism will be shattered…especially when Jupiter forms the final square to Saturn later this month and Saturn will continue the process of ‘back to reality’ with the square to Neptune. In this Full Moon chart, Mercury retrograde is quincunx to Saturn retrograde which brings up brain blocks, stunted ideas, lack of knowledge and simply thinking you’re not ‘good enough’. Remember that Mercury is now stationing so the feeling of being like a broken record will pass! Thankfully Mercury does have some reinforcements with trines to Jupiter and Pluto so whilst the foreground of this chart is stormy, there’s some clear sky on the horizon…

There may be a temptation to go on a crusade, to push, to want it all during this lunation but retrograde Mars is saying you have to go back before you can go forwards. You have to really understand your motivation, your reasons and regain your focus. A perfect way of using this energy would be to quietly examine what you truly want. Ask yourself why you want it and what it really means to you. Sometimes, we have goals but we lose sight of the initial reason why we set the goal in the first place. And sometimes just when we’re in sight of the goal, we realise we didn’t want it after all. It may be necessary to explore those ideas that you have been holding sacred, to see if they really stand up to the test of time, to see if they are in alignment with your ultimate vision. Maybe you need to stop holding a candle to someone or something in order to regain your fire and sense of direction.

The Sabian symbol of this Full Moon is :-

White-capped Waves Display The Power Of Wind Over Sea

This symbol brings up images of a storm whipping up a frenzy. The trouble with Sagittarius is that it’s inclined to exaggerate, to ‘big it up’ as Jupiter would say. It makes me think of political speeches pitched with the sole intention of getting a reaction. With Jupiter opposite Neptune, we’ve got distortion through magnification. Recognising that what is on the surface may not be the truth of things is key, especially as the Moon makes a wide but out of sign trine to Chiron.

Yes, this is a tetchy Moon, a heated Moon. Mars is moving towards its closest approach to us in ten years and he isn’t happy about the whole going backwards thing. It’s like he’s running back to us shouting ‘What, just WHAT do you want?!”

It’s time to get clear about your highest ideals, your deepest beliefs. Fall back on the Grand Earth trine with Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto striving to work in your favour. Think long and hard, explore your options. Exercise restraint. Ruler Jupiter in Virgo shows that we have to be as humble and patient as the Master’s apprentice. What is truly sacred will survive the fires of Mars and reveal the next horizon.

  1. I liked this essay a lot. I do think this time period is about getting clear about what you want. Go over it again and again till you know what’s true for you! What do you “really” want? (Mars Rx)
Mercury/Taurus Rx, what are you worth? How much do you want? Can you be bought? Are some things just so important there’s no amount of money “worth it”? These have been my questions. They surf through my brain and even in the middle of the night now. Feels like wanting, but very course, not fully developed yet, or refined. Just a frenzy of “I’m frustrated and want out”!
Yes, fire into frying pan. W/ the retro’s we have to be careful of that one! I’m hoping for more clarity after FM and w/ Mars past its’ opposition to the Sun. Maybe w/ Gemini being Mercury ruled and now direct will help?

  2. I’m likely to give birth tonight/tomorrow morning during the full moon in New Zealand – my boy is going to have an interesting natal chart…

  3. Hi Nancy, thanks for your comment. Yes, hopefully Mercury stationing direct should help to lift some of this heavy energy that’s been around and bring some clarity/answers.

  4. Thanks, Leah, you are on fire, of course. I’ve still got Vir/Pisc tension. Is he, or is he not, up for grabs? I believe he’s taken, playing games. She’s also Pisces. How to escape… heartache. Luv U!

  5. Thank you, Leah. The pictured chart fits my Virgo Sun Sag Rising Chart, and explains the deep sadness brought by revisiting my demanding father, 4th House Neptune, all I’ve ever loved, First House square mother’s 10th house, Grand Cross delays committed partner, 7th House.

  6. Amazing article Madame Whitehorse, I’m at a point right now that I am stuck with many potentials circling around me. Yet not truly knowing what to do.

You are right, I need to stop and ask some deep rooted questions; what I really want and lots of patience.

    Thank you !
