New Moon in Virgo – September 2020

The New Moon takes place at midday (BST) on September 17, 2020 at 25°Vi00′.

This is a strong Earth chart, but the Moon and Sun are opposed by watery Neptune. It’s like a landslide, Mother Nature has a will of her own (Ceres is out of Bounds) and nothing is assured or certain. With the focus on Virgo, we long to make a fresh start, scrub away problems, cleanse mind body and soul. But it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, beaten back by the tide, confused or defeated before we start.

The lights are squaring the Nodes and this too makes it a wobbly picture. Some astrological research suggests that these periods can be particularly challenging citing disasters, both natural and manmade and extreme tension in the collective psyche. Certainly for many of us, this has been a tense year and with Mars now retrograde and triggering the Saturn-Pluto conjunction once again, the heat is on. It’s unsettling and the onus is on each of us to explore where we can take personal responsibility (without trying to shoulder the weight of the world).

The question to ask is ‘where can I make it better? What one small thing can you do during this lunation that will improve circumstances? Use your imagination and set the seed of intention. Mercury, the ruler of this lunation however is squaring massive Jupiter, giving rise to big ideas and sweeping judgements. But it’s the little things that need our focus, the small tweaks, the quiet concentration. The New Moon is on the Sabian symbol ‘A Boy With A Censer Serves The Priest Near The Altar’. It’s about focusing on what is sacred and letting all else fall away. Instead of falling into illusion and delusion, we need to hold space for soul work without losing our connection to reality. Use Virgo’s discernment to carefully analyse the next steps. Thankfully the trines to the Capricorn planets give us an anchor and a place to go if we feel out of our depth. Do what needs to be done to keep life ticking over. Drink water. Balance work with rest. Keep a positive mindset. Concentrate on what is meaningful. Let go of the need for everything to be perfect. It might be messy right now but that doesn’t mean it’s broken.

I recorded a 30mins Global Astro-Tarot reading for this New Moon over on my Patreon where I explored this chart in depth and featured the asteroids Klio, Borasisi and Persephone. It’s available on the $1 tier up. If you would like to join and listen, here’s the link https://www.patreon.com/posts/new-moon-in-2020-41594736
