New Moon in Aries – April 2021

The New Moon occurs at 03:30 (BST) on April 12, 2021 at 22°Ar24′.

This is a potent New Moon, the first New Moon of the astrological new year and a lunation that exudes a tremendous force. Aries is associated with the global 1st house and here we can see a huge gathering of planets with Chiron, Mercury, Ceres, the Sun and Moon, Medea, Eris and Venus all present here. This is a strong cardinal chart, filled with the element of fire with little water and earth. It means we are sparked to life, animated, invigorated, ready, fired up, adrenaline running, engine revving. Get set, GO!

At the New Moon in Aries, we have a blank slate that invites us to start a new adventure and a fresh challenge. The Sun is exalted here and therefore we tend to have more courage to follow our heart and live our passions. Mars, the ruler of this lunation is trine to Jupiter so all this strong, courageous, impulsive, burning energy is magnified. It’s big and noisy and occasionally, with Mars out of bounds, it can also be over the top, in your face, too aggressive, too pushy, hot-headed. Hopefully the sextiles from the New Moon to Mars and Jupiter will encourage us to stay on the high side, grab good opportunities and keep one eye on the future. Aries is very immediate and in the now which is wonderful for fast action and decisions. But we need to have an awareness of where we are headed so that we can ensure that what we do is in alignment of our end goal.

Venus perfects a square to Pluto shortly after the New Moon and is an aspect which adds tension into the picture. There are changes to be made and it feels uncomfortable. Maybe we need to let go of an old relationship or something we once thought of as precious to clear the way for new growth. Maybe we are caught up in chasing money and material ‘stuff’ because we want the control or the power. Maybe we’re just scared of going it alone. Whatever the situation, the New Moon may make us aware of what needs to be confronted and/or released.

Note that this Moon’s conjunction to Eris means that the ongoing Eris-Pluto square is also triggered. On a global level, Eris is taking down those who abuse their powers. On an inner level, we could feel triggered, especially with all the fiery hot, defensive, reactionary Aries energy in this chart! It’s important that we take a beat before responding if something triggers us because maybe it’s just Eris, pointing out the elephant in the room, the unpleasantness that we would like to ignore but that is getting in the way and stifling our inner flame.

The Moon is on the Sabian symbol ‘A Pregnant Woman In Light Summer Dress’. It tells us that there is much to look forward to – new life, excitement, love, joy. This symbol and chart are filled with a sense of anticipation. The woman’s dress in the symbol is light and like the aspects to Pluto, it tells us that we must let go of the baggage. Lighten up! This is a moment of birth and rebirth. Aries is an anagram of arise and raise. It’s time to start again. Up your frequency. Arise from the ashes. You are strong enough.

I recorded a 30mins astro-tarot reading for this lunation over on my Patreon where I discussed the asteroid Medea in conjunction with the New Moon. Click here to join my Patreon and listen.
