30 Day Tarot Challenge – Question 5

Q. When and where did you give your first reading?

Wands1I was about 15 years old with two of my school friends, chatting to them in my bedroom. One of them found my cards (the Lenormand deck at this time) and wanted to know what they were. Even by then, I was already known for being into ‘spooky’ things. Both of them badgered me for a reading so I relented, even though I still didn’t quite know what I was doing. I can’t remember at all now what I said or what cards came up, but I do remember one of my friends being rather freaked out as apparently I’d hit on some family trouble that she’d kept quiet about. I think it was then that I realised how powerful a reading could be and how important it was to treat it with respect. The cards showed me that they weren’t to be toyed with.

I still remember my first professional reading at the psychic line. Back then, we had the impossible task of reading for up to 10 people at a time. A TV or radio advert would go out and all the lines would start flashing. I remember sitting at the desk, logging in and taking a deep breath not knowing what the hell I was letting myself in for!

The lines started flashing, first two, then four, then a full house. I drew a card from my deck and suddenly thought ‘Ireland’.

“I’m getting someone who has a strong connection to Ireland” I said confidently.

And all ten voices claimed the connection! I remember being stunned for a moment then thinking, well, I have no idea what to do here so I’m just going to carry on. One voice had really struck me when she spoke so I began with her. 10 readings later, I was exhausted and happy and completely blown away by the power of the tarot and how we are all connected by some invisible force. It certainly was a baptism of fire!
